The Somerset city of Bath is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the United Kingdom, thanks to its close proximity to the River Avon, its Roman Baths and the beautiful countryside that surrounds it. Bath is also home to a lot of excellent events and attractions, so whether you are a regular resident of the city, or you are just planning to visit, there will be no shortage of exciting things for you to do next month.
Here are just three of the most interesting things you can do in Bath as we head into autumn:
1. Hot air balloon flights
Bath has to be one of the best places in the country to embark on a hot air balloon flight. Perched in the valley of the River Avon, Bath is a World Heritage Site, with so much to see, and many of the most prominent sites in the area look even more impressive from the vantage of a hot air balloon. Not only that, but the typically crisp September weather, combined with the beginning of the seasons’ changing, makes for a wonderful hours or two of sightseeing.
If you do decide to embark on a hot air balloon ride, take care to look out for the limestone hills of the Cotswolds, the various Roman ruins and the various wildlife present in the area.
2. The Jane Austen Festival
Lovers of the great English romantic novelist Jane Austen should do what they can to be in Bath between 9th and 18th September, because that’s when the Jane Austen Festival is set to take place. At this year’s event, which will be the 16th annual celebration of the great writer, there will be a 500-person Grand Regency Costumed Promenade, walking tours, talks, dancing lessons and much more besides, to keep visitors immersed in the period when Austen lived and wrote her famous books.
3. Bath Food Festival
Bath in September is also a great place to visit if you are a food fan. This year, the Bath Food Festival will be held on 24th and 25th September, and will give you the chance to sample some of the finest foods from Bath and beyond. More than 50 stallholders from around the world are expected to attend the event, which will be held at Bath Racecourse, ensuring that no matter whether you like good English grub or fine foreign food, you will be well catered for.
